How to Add and Remove Server Roles in Exchange 2007

Exchange Server Roles.

The term “Server Role” is new to Exchange 2007 and it represents a concept of organizing features and services across servers. By allocating

Exchange features and services to separate Server Roles you are:

*improving hardware utilization and scalability
*reducing maintenance down time and end user impact
*getting more flexibility to fit your unique business needs

There are five server roles in Exchange Server 2007:

Mailbox Role - hosts mailbox and public folder data and provides MAPI access for Outlook clients

Client Access Role - enables the use of Internet browsers (OWA), 3rd party mail clients (POP3/IMAP4) and mobile devices (ActiveSync) to access mailboxes

Edge Transport Role - provides mail quarantine and SMTP service to enhance security

Hub Transport Role - handles mails by routing them to next hop

Unified Messaging Role - enables access to mailboxes, address books, and calendars using the telephone and voice

All of the above server roles, except the Edge Transport, can be assigned to a single physical server or be divided up and put on multiple servers. The Edge Transport server role however, must be installed on its own physical server and cannot be installed in combination with the other server roles.

You have the option to assign specific server roles during the Exchange Server installation. But what happens if you made the wrong selection? What if you didn’t select the Hub Transport role and now your boss wants you to add it? And what if you did add it and now you need to remove it?

Don’t worry! Server roles can be added on or removed even after the Exchange Server has been installed. And I will show you step-by-step how to do it!

Adding a Server Role in Exchange 2007
1. To add a server role, you need to start the Exchange Setup by right clicking on the CD drive and selecting Auto-Play.

2. You will not get the original setup/install screen, instead you will be taken to the Exchange Maintenance Mode window. Go ahead and click Next.

3. In the next window you will be able to add a server role. In my example below, the only role I have available is the Unified Messaging Role. If I check this role and click on Next, I will be taken to the readiness check for that role first and then I will be able to install it.

4. Notice that you don’t have the option to remove a role in this window. All the checkboxes are grayed out and the only thing you can do is to add the Unified Messaging Role

Removing a Server Role in Exchange 2007

1. In order remove a role, you need to get out of the Exchange Server 2007 Setup window and open up Add or Remove Programs in the Control Panel.

2. Select the Microsoft Exchange Server 2007 and click on the Remove button.

3. Notice that this is the exact same window you got after running the Exchange Setup in the Adding a Server Role steps above. This time however, you will be able to remove the server roles. To continue, click Next.

4. In the Server Role Selection window you can remove the roles you do not want. When you’re done click Next. It will take a couple of minutes to complete the removal, but this is it. You are done!

How to Hack Into a Windows XP Computer Without Changing Password

How to Hack Into a Windows XP Computer Without Changing Password

login to a password protected Windows even if you do not have the password is by making Windows accepting any passwords.
There is a far better way to get into Windows XP. It is easy and it does not reset the password. Hack into a computer running Windows XP without changing the password and find out all and any passwords on the machine (including admin accounts). You do not need access to any accounts to do this. Of course, do not do this on anyone elses computer without proper authorisation.

Steps to Hack into a Windows XP Computer without changing password:
1. Get physical access to the machine. Remember that it must have a CD or DVD drive.
2. Download DreamPackPL HERE.
3. Unzip the downloaded dreampackpl.zip and you'll get dreampackpl.ISO.
4. Use any burning program that can burn ISO images.
5. After you have the disk, boot from the CD or DVD drive. You will see Windows 2000 Setup and it will load some files.
6. Press "R" to install DreamPackPL.
7. Press "C" to install DreamPackPL by using the recovery console.
8. Select the Windows installation that is currently on the computer (Normally is "1" if you only have one Windows installed)
9. Backup your original sfcfiles.dll by typing:
"ren C:\Windows\System32\sfcfiles.dll sfcfiles.lld" (without quotes)
10. Copy the hacked file from CD to system32 folder. Type:
"copy D:\i386\pinball.ex_ C:\Windows\System32\sfcfiles.dll" (without quotes and assuming your CD drive is D:)
11. Type "exit", take out disk and reboot.
12. In the password field, type "dreamon" (without quotes) and DreamPack menu will appear.
13. Click the top graphic on the DreamPack menu and you will get a menu popup.

14. Go to commands and enable the options and enable the god command.

15. Type "god" in the password field to get in Windows.

You can also go to Passwords and select "Logon with wrong password and hash". This option allows you to login with ANY password.

Note: I was unable to bring up the DreamPackPL for the first time because I have Kaspersky Anti-Virus already running in background. I believe most antivirus already labelled this tool as a Hack-Tool. A Hack-Tool is NOT a virus. DreamPackPL helps you bypass the Windows Login screen and it is not destructive.

These hidden tools help you get maximum performance from your Vista PC.

Want to know what's going on behind the surface of your Windows Vista PC--and how to make it run better? Beyond the eye candy of the Aero interface lie some new tools that will help you monitor and maximize the performance of your system.

We got a look at some of these tools from one of Microsoft's own übergeeks, Mark Russinovich, at the recent Windows Hardware Engineering Conference (WinHEC). If you've been serious about digging into the inner workings of Windows, there's a good chance you've used a tool created by Russinovich. He founded Sysinternals, a company that developed Process Explorer, a much more powerful version of Windows Task Manager, as well as a slew of other utilities. Sysinternals was bought by Microsoft last year.

Here are a few of Russinovich's favorite Vista tools:

Performance monitoring: Russinovich uses Vista's Resource Overview, a nicely upgraded utility that provides at-a-glance system performance charts for CPU, disk, network, and memory usage. Clicking any of the four charts provides detailed information on how much each resource is being used by currently running tasks. Preston Gralla has written about it for PC World, along with the companion Reliability monitor tool, which can quickly show all program, hardware, and OS failures, as well as software installs and uninstalls. The Reliability Monitor can show, for instance, how many times a particular program has crashed. You can reach both monitoring tools through the Reliability and Performance Monitor toolset by clicking Start and typing perfmon in the Start Search box.

CPU cycle usage: One thing you won't see in these built-in monitors is Vista's new ability to measure and report a program's processor usage based on CPU cycles over the entire time the program has been in use. Russinovich says such a report can provide a more accurate view of the drain on CPU resources than you can get in XP, whose Task Manager only shows how much of the CPU a process is using at that moment.Click here for full-size image.

To see the new data, download and unzip the Process Explorer utility. Right-click one of the column headings (such as 'Process') and click Select Columns. Choose the Process Performance tab, and then CPU Cycles. You can sort the display by that column and see which programs have eaten up the most CPU resources.

SuperFetch RAM usage: If you do keep an eye on Vista's system performance stats, don't be surprised to see the reported amount of free RAM drop steadily over time, even if you're not opening new files or programs. This trend can sometimes indicate a memory-guzzling program bug, but Russinovich says you'll also see it as a result of the beneficial SuperFetch feature, which attempts to learn which tasks you'll perform at certain times and preload that task's data into available physical memory for faster performance.

Multimedia prioritization: If you use Windows Media Player in Vista, you won't need to worry as much about your music or videos skipping if you weigh down your computer with other, resource-intensive programs. Vista prioritizes Media Player to give it precedence over other tasks so that your tunes and movies play smoothly even when the PC is busy. Other apps should be able to take advantage of this functionality as well, but I haven't yet heard from Apple whether iTunes does. You can read my blog for more on this new feature.

Network open cancellation: In XP, if you tried to access files on servers on your work or home network that were temporarily unavailable, your system would seize up, and you'd have to twiddle your thumbs until Windows decided it wasn't going to hear back from the down server. Vista allows you to interrupt these network access attempts by clicking the Cancel button in file-open dialog boxes, or by pressing -C if you're a serious techie and can run things from the command line.Click here for full-size image.

Rearranging the taskbar: This last tip isn't specific to Vista, but I noticed it on the Vista laptop Russinovich used for his second talk. You already know you can right-click the taskbar on XP or Vista, deselect Lock the Taskbar, and bump up its size to two rows. What I didn't know is that you can then set it so that your Quick Launch icons get a whole taskbar row to themselves. To do this, position your mouse cursor over the dotted Quick Launch border (the cursor will change to the resize arrow). Click and hold the left mouse button, and then drag the Quick Launch region below the task list. Getting it into the right position can be a bit tricky and may take a few tries, but it works best for me to pull it down and to the right.

Guide for installing XP after Vista is installed

Some of you may have purchased systems that came with vista pre-installed. If you want to run an older operating system such as XP or win2k [and you do not want to have to reinstall vista] then you might be interested in this guide. Note to do this you must have a vista install DVD.

I have just finished installing a dual boot; win2k and vista where vista was installed first and win2k added after. This is quite easy and does not require any third party app.

Prior to beginning this task, make a complete backup of your system. I use and recommend Acronis True Image for this task. In addition do make sure that win2k/xp has drivers available for your hardware. This is especially important if you have a laptop. If there are no drivers available, you are wasting your time.

To start we need to create a partition in which to install win2k/xp. Open disk management; start>run and type in "diskmgmt.msc" without quotes. Hit enter; this brings up disk management. Right click your drive and choose shrink from the menu. I would make the partition approx 10gig for win2k and 15-20gig for XP [depending on how much software you are going to install] Once you have completed the shrink process, create a partition and format with NTFS. [Using disk management] At this point you new partition has been assigned the next available drive letter. I like drive letters in order so I use disk management to reassign the drive letters for the optical drives so I can assign drive letters sequentially for the hard disk partitions. With the new partition now labeled D and optical drives following, it is now time to install our older operating system.

Boot with your win2k/xp CD [CD set as first boot device in the bios] Select the "D" partition as to where you will install. I will not go into detailed instructions as to how to install win2k or xp; there are many guides on the web for this purpose. Complete the install. At this point, vista will no longer boot; we need to repair the boot sector and vista's boot configuration files. Boot into win2k/xp and open a command prompt; start>run>cmd and hit enter. We will now use Bootsect.exe to restore the Vista MBR and the boot code that transfers control to the Windows Boot mgr app.

Insert your vista dvd into the drive; cancel window that may autorun. Type this inDrive:\boot\Bootset.exe /NT60 All hit enterIn this command drive is the drive where the Vista install DVD is located.

Next we will use Bcdedit.exe to manually create an entry for win2k/xp

Type Drive:\windows\system32\Bcdedit /create {ntldr} –d "Description for earlier Windows" hit enter.Note in this command drive is where you have vista installed; most likely "C" The description can be whatever you want ie Windows 2000, Windows XP, etc.

We now will set the active partition. Note in this command drive is the letter for the active partition; again most likely "C"Drive:\Windows\system32\Bcdedit /set {ntldr} device partition=X: hit enter Again this is most likely C not X.

Drive:\windows\system32\Bcdedit /set {ntldr} path \ntldr hit enterDrive:\windows\system32\Bcdedit /displayorder {ntldr} –addlast hit enter.

Now restart the system and you will have the vista boot menu giving you the choice of operating systems.

The Complete Guide To Optimising Windows XP

Beginners

Remove Annoying Delete Confirmation MessagesAlthough not strictly a performance tweak I love this fix as it makes my machine 'feel' faster. I hate the annoying 'are you sure?' messages that XP displays, especially if I have to use a laptop touchpad to close them. To remove these messages:
Right-click on the 'Recycle Bin' on the desktop and then click 'Properties'
Clear the 'Display Delete Confirmation Dialog' check box and click 'Ok'. If you do accidentally delete a file don't worry as all is not lost. Just go to your Recycle Bin and 'Restore' the file.
Disable Indexing ServicesIndexing Services is a small little program that uses large amounts of RAM and can often make a computer endlessly loud and noisy. This system process indexes and updates lists of all the files that are on your computer. It does this so that when you do a search for something on your computer, it will search faster by scanning the index lists. If you don't search your computer often, or even if you do search often, this system service is completely unnecessary. To disable do the following:
Go to Start
Click Settings
Click Control Panel
Double-click Add/Remove Programs
Click the Add/Remove Window Components
Uncheck the Indexing services box
Click 'Next'
Optimise Display SettingsWindows XP can look sexy but displaying all the visual items can waste system resources. To optimise:
Go to Start
Click Settings
Click Control Panel
Click System
Click Advanced tab
In the Performance tab click Settings
Leave only the following ticked:
Show shadows under menus
Show shadows under mouse pointer
Show translucent selection rectangle
Use drop shadows for icons labels on the desktop
Use visual styles on windows and buttons
Speedup Folder BrowsingYou may have noticed that every-time you open my computer to browse folders that there is a slight delay. This is because Windows XP automatically searches for network files and printers every-time you open Windows Explorer. To fix this and to increase browsing significantly:
Open My Computer
Click on Tools menu
Click on Folder Options
Click on the View tab.
Uncheck the Automatically search for network folders and printers check box
Click Apply
Click Ok
Reboot your computer
Disable Performance CountersWindows XP has a performance monitor utility which monitors several areas of your PC's performance. These utilities take up system resources so disabling is a good idea. To disable:
download and install the Extensible Performance Counter List
Then select each counter in turn in the 'Extensible performance counters' window and clear the 'performance counters enabled' checkbox at the bottom.button below
Improve Memory Usage With Cacheman
Cacheman Improves the performance of your computer by optimizing the disk cache, memory and a number of other settings. Once Installed:
Go to Show Wizard and select All
Run all the wizards by selecting Next or Finished until you are back to the main menu. Use the defaults unless you know exactly what you are doing
Exit and Save Cacheman
Restart Windows
Optimise your internet connection
There are lots of ways to do this but by far the easiest is to run TCP/IP Optimizer
Download and install
Click the General Settings tab and select your Connection Speed (Kbps)
Click Network Adapter and choose the interface you use to connect to the Internet
Check Optimal Settings then Apply
Reboot
Optimise Your Pagefile
If you give your pagefile a fixed size it saves the operating system from needing to resize the page file.
Windows XP sizes the page file to about 1.5X the amount of actual physical memory by default. While this is good for systems with smaller amounts of memory (under 512MB) it is unlikely that a typical XP desktop system will ever need 1.5 X 512MB or more of virtual memory. If you have less than 512MB of memory, leave the page file at its default size. If you have 512MB or more, change the ratio to 1:1 page file size to physical memory size.
Right click on My Computer and select Properties
Select the Advanced tab
Under Performance choose the Settings button
Select the Advanced tab again and under Virtual Memory select Change
Highlight the drive containing your page file and make the initial Size of the file the same as the Maximum Size of the file.
Run BootVis - Improve Boot Times
BootVis will significantly improve boot times:
Download and Run
Select Trace
Select Next Boot and Driver Trace
A Trace Repetitions screen will appear, select Ok and Reboot
Upon reboot, BootVis will automatically start, analyze and log your system's boot process. When it's done, in the menu go to Trace and select Optimize System
Reboot.
When your machine has rebooted wait until you see the Optimizing System box appear. Be patient and wait for the process to complete
Remove Fonts for Speed
Fonts, especially TrueType fonts, use quite a bit of system resources. For optimal performance, trim your fonts down to just those that you need to use on a daily basis and fonts that applications may require.
Open Control Panel
Open Fonts folder
Move fonts you don't need to a temporary directory (e.g. C:¥FONTBKUP?) just in case you need or want to bring a few of them back. The more fonts you uninstall, the more system resources you will gain.
Intermediate
Turn Off System Restore
System Restore can be a useful if your computer is having problems, however storing all the restore points can literally take up Gigabytes of space on your hard drive. To turn off System Restore:
Open Control Panel
Click on Performance and Maintenance
Click on System
Click on the System Restore tab
Tick 'Turn off System Restore on All Drives'
Click 'Ok'
Defragment Your Pagefile
Keeping your pagefile defragmented can provide a major performance boost. One of the best ways of doing this is to creat a separate partition on your hard drive just for your page file, so that it doesn't get impacted by normal disk usage. Another way of keeping your pagefile defragmented is to run PageDefrag. This cool little app can be used to defrag your pagefile, and can also be set to defrag the pagefile everytime your PC starts. To install:
Download and Run PageDefrag
Tick "Defrag at next Reboot",
Click "Ok"
Reboot
Make Your Menus Load Faster
This is one of my favourite tweaks as it makes a huge difference to how fast your machine will 'feel'. What this tweak does is remove the slight delay between clicking on a menu and XP displaying the menu.
This is the delay time before a menu is opened. You can set it to "0? but it can make windows really hard to use as menus will open if you just look at them - well move your mouse over them anyway. I tend to go for anywhere between 50-150 depending on my mood
Go to Start then Run
Type 'Regedit' then click 'Ok'
Find "HKEY_CURRENT_USER¥Control Panel¥Desktop"
Select "MenuShowDelay"
Right click and select "Modify'
Reduce the number to around "100?
Make Programs Load Faster
This little tweak tends to work for most programs. If your program doesn't load properly just undo the change. For any program:
Right-click on the icon/shortcut you use to launch the program
Select properties
In the 'target' box, add ' /prefetch:1′ at the end of the line.
Click "Ok"
Ensure XP Is Using DMA Mode
XP enables DMA for Hard-Drives and CD-Roms by default on most ATA or ATAPI (IDE) devices. However, sometimes computers switch to PIO mode which is slower for data transfer - a typical reason is because of a virus. To ensure that your machine is using DMA:
Open 'Device Manager'
Double-click 'IDE ATA/ATAPI Controllers'
Right-click 'Primary Channel' and select 'Properties' and then 'Advanced Settings'
In the 'Current Transfer Mode' drop-down box, select 'DMA if Available' if the current setting is 'PIO Only'
Advanced
Speed Up Boot Times I
This tweak works by creating a batch file to clear the temp and history folders everytime you shutdown so that your PC doesn't waste time checking these folders the next time it boots. It's quite simple to implement:
Open Notepad and create a new file with the following entries:
RD /S /q "C:¥Documents and Settings"UserName without quotes"¥Local Settings¥History"
RD /S /q "C:¥Documents and Settings¥Default User¥Local Settings¥History"
RD /S /q "D:¥Temp" <–"Deletes temp folder, type in the location of your temp folder" Save the new as anything you like but it has to be a '.bat' file e.g. fastboot.bat or deltemp.bat Click 'Start' then 'Run' Type in 'gpedit.msc' and hit 'ok' Click on 'Computer Configuration' then 'Windows Settings' Double-click on 'Scripts' and then on 'Shutdown' Click 'Add' and find the batch file that you created and then press 'Ok' Speed Up Boot Times II When your PC starts it usually looks for any bootable media in any floppy or cd-rom drives you have installed before it gets around to loading the Operating System from the HDD. This can waste valuable time. To fix this we need to make some changes to the Bios. Note: Once this change has been made, you won't be able to boot from a floppy disc or a CD-rom. If for some strange reason you need to do this in the future, just go back into your bios, repeat the steps above and put your floppy or CD-rom back as the 'First Device' To enter the bios you usually press 'F2′ or 'delete' when your PC starts Navigate to the 'Boot' menu Select 'Boot Sequence' Then either move your Hard drive to the top position or set it as the 'First Device'5. Press the 'Escape' key to leave the bios. Don't forget to save your settings before exiting Speed Up Boot Times III When your computer boots up it usually has to check with the network to see what IP addresses are free and then it grabs one of these. By configuring a manually assigned IP address your boot time will improve. To do this do the following: Click on 'Start' and then "Connect To/Show All Connections' Right-click your network adapter card and click 'Properties' On the 'General' tab, select 'TCP/IP' in the list of services and click 'Properties' In the TCP/IP properties, click 'Use the following address' and enter an IP address for your PC. If you are using a router this is usually 192.168.0.xx or 192.168.1.xx. If you are not sure what address you could check with your ISP or go to 'Start/run' and type 'cmd' and then 'ipconfig/all'. This will show your current IP settings which you will need to copy Enter the correct details for 'Subnet mask', 'Default gateway' and 'DNS Server'. Again if you are not sure what figures to enter use 'ipconfig/all' as in stage 4 Disable Unnecessary Services Because Windows XP has to be all things to all people it has many services running that take up system resources that you will never need.Below is a list of services that can be disabled on most machines: To disable these services: Alerter Clipbook Computer Browser Distributed Link Tracking Client Fast User Switching Help and Support - (If you use Windows Help and Support leave this enabled) Indexing Service IPSEC Services Messenger Netmeeting Remote Desktop Sharing (disabled for extra security) Portable Media Serial Number Remote Desktop Help Session Manager (disabled for extra security) Remote Procedure Call Locator Remote Registry (disabled for extra security) Remote Registry Service Secondary Logon Routing & Remote Access (disabled for extra security) Server SSDP Discovery Service - (Unplug n' Pray will disable this) Telnet TCP/IP NetBIOS Helper Upload Manager Universal Plug and Play Device Host Windows Time Wireless Zero Configuration (Do not disable if you use a wireless network) Go to Start and then Run and type "services.msc" Doubleclick on the service you want to change Change the startup type to 'Disable" Speedup Folder Access - Disable Last Access Update If you have a lot of folders and subdirectories on your computer, when you access a directory XP wastes a lot of time updating the time stamp showing the last access time for that directory and for ALL sub directories. To stop XP doing this you need to edit the registry. If you are uncomfortable doing this then please do not attempt. Go to Start and then Run and type "regedit" Click through the file system until you get to "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE¥System¥CurrentControlSet¥Control¥FileSystem" Right-click in a blank area of the window on the right and select 'DWORD Value' Create a new DWORD Value called 'NtfsDisableLastAccessUpdate' Then Right click on the new value and select 'Modify' Change the Value Data to '1′ Click 'OK' Improve Boot Times A great new feature in Microsoft Windows XP is the ability to do a boot defragment. This places all boot files next to each other on the disk to allow for faster booting. By default this option in enables but on some builds it is not so below is how to turn it on. Go to Start Menu and Click Run Type in "Regedit" then click ok Find "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE¥SOFTWARE¥Microsoft¥Dfrg¥BootOpt imizeFunction" Select "Enable" from the list on the right Right on it and select "Modify" Change the value to "Y to enable" Reboot Improve Swapfile Performance If you have more than 256MB of RAM this tweak will considerably improve your performance. It basically makes sure that your PC uses every last drop of memory (faster than swap file) before it starts using the swap file. Go to Start then Run Type "msconfig.exe" then ok Click on the System.ini tab Expand the 386enh tab by clicking on the plus sign Click on new then in the blank box type"ConservativeSwapfileUsage=1? Click OK Restart PC Improve XP Shutdown Speed This tweak reduces the time XP waits before automatically closing any running programs when you give it the command to shutdown. Go to Start then select Run Type 'Regedit' and click ok Find 'HKEY_CURRENT_USER¥Control Panel¥Desktop'Select 'WaitToKillAppTimeout' Right click and select 'Modify' Change the value to '1000′ Click 'OK' Now select 'HungAppTimeout' Right click and select 'Modify' Change the value to '1000′ Click 'OK' Now find 'HKEY_USERS¥.DEFAULT¥Control Panel¥Desktop' Select 'WaitToKillAppTimeout' Right click and select 'Modify' Change the value to '1000′ Click 'OK' Now find 'HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE¥System¥CurrentControlSet¥Control' Select 'WaitToKillServiceTimeout' Right click and select 'Modify' Change the value to '1000′ Click 'OK' I hope you found this guide useful. __._,_.___

How to find senders IP address from received mail

Emails are very important part of our communication systemWe think that we know everything about emailswe know how to compose email , how to attach a file , how to send it to others ,How to receive emails from others and many other things. This is all we know about emails. But this is not end of it .When you receive or send emails many other things are sent with it.At this time when Email is progressively used for business and for many purposes, not to mention it is being used for phishing and other malicious intentions. It is of utmost priority to understand the other "messages" besides what has been sent or received by you.Every email comes with a “Header” which is one part of an e-mail structure; call it DNA of the mail. It carries the basic fundamental information such as from whom the email comes, to whom it is addressed, date/time it was sent and the subject of the email. It is similar to an electronic postSeptemberk. Moreover, it also carries other detailed information which we usually don’t see. This basic information comes in all brief/basic headers that most email programs automatically shows. This detail technical information can be viewed in a full header. All email programs can be set to show only brief header or full header and it is up to the users to set the program whether to view only “brief header” or “full header”.Full header carries the information of the mail server’s name that the email passed through on its way to the recipient, and sender's IP address and even the name of the email program and its version used.Knowledge of this information is essential for analysis and investigation purposes on cases involving email abuse, spamming, harassment, forgeries and mail-bombing. It is worth mentioning, understanding of this tool would definitely help people to counter these attacks, and save themselves from unwarranted consequences. Well, this information could not be found in a brief header. Here we will take the case of Google mail and Yahoo mail to find out the full header.Google Mail.Using your id/password, login to Gmail.
